Since its introduction to the Philippines in 2016, interest in the sport of pickleball has been growing rapidly. The number of pickleball clubs increased from 5 in 2020 to 181 in 2024. The number of registered players increased form 244 in 2020 to 10,717 in 2024.[3]
History
[edit]In February 2016 a pickleball clinic was held in Cebu by Sarah Ash. Some of the clinic participants established the first regular pickleball venue at LDS Church on Buendia Avenue in Makati, in June 2017, and also formed the Philippine Pickleball Association (PPA) in February 2018. In 2019 the PPA registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission but were required to change their name, and they chose the Philippine Pickleball Sports Association, Inc (PPSA). Later that same year they changed their name again to the Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF). In May 2024 the PPF was officially recognized by the Philippine Olympic Committee as the National Sport Association for the sport of pickleball.[3]
