Ngọc Châu is a commune () and village in Tân Yên District, Bắc Giang Province, in northeastern Vietnam.[1]

History

Ngọc Châu was established in 1971, by renaming the former Quang Minh commune. Quang Minh was formed in 1945 after the August Revolution, by merging the three communes of Ngọc Châu, Ngọc Cục, and Khánh Giàng. In 1957, Quang Minh became a part of the newly-formed Tân Yên District, when it was split from Yên Thế District.[1]

Geography

Ngoc Chau is a mountainous commune located in Tan Yen District. As of 2023, it has a total area of 10.8 km². It comprises 12 villages: Binh An, Bang Cuc, Tan Minh, Ngoc Loi, Quang Chau, Tan Phu, Cau Xi, Chau Son, Khanh Ninh, Trai Moi, Tan Trung, and Trung Dong.[1]

As of December 31, 2020, the commune had a population of 8,124, with 1,925 households.[1]

Landmarks

Ngoc Chau is known for the memorial area of national hero Hoang Hoa Tham, located in Quang Chau village.[1]

Achievements

In 2018, Ngọc Châu was officially recognized by the People's Committee of Bắc Giang Province as meeting the standards of a "New Rural Area". In 2022 the commune obtained the title of advanced new rural area.[1]
