Monticello Hotel is a historic hotel located at 210 W. 63rd Street in Miami Beach, Florida. Built in 1948, the hotel is an example of Neoclassical Revival architecture and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.[1]

History

[edit]

The Monticello Hotel was designed by architects Joseph J. De Brita and A. Kononoff for developer Louis Levy in 1946. Construction was completed in January 1948, and the hotel originally featured 49 guest units.[2]

Located at the intersection of Collins Avenue and 63rd Street, the Monticello Hotel is part of an architectural ensemble that includes the nearby Mount Vernon Hotel, another Neoclassical Revival building designed by the same architects.[2]

Architecture

[edit]

The two-story hotel was built in the Neoclassical Revival style, characterized by classical design elements such as symmetrical facades and decorative moldings. This style was popular in Miami Beach during the mid-20th century and contributes to the area's historical character.[2]

National Register of Historic Places

[edit]

On October 11, 2017, the Monticello Hotel was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places due to its architectural significance and role in the development of Miami Beach.[1][3]

Modern Use

[edit]

In recent years, the building has been repurposed as the Oceanside Hotel, a boutique hotel that retains its historic charm while offering modern accommodations. The hotel features contemporary rooms, an outdoor pool, and an on-site restaurant called The Tavern, which serves American cuisine.[4]
