Mohammad Main Ullah Chowdhury [a] is a retired two star officer of Bangladesh Army[1] and former force Commander of the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). In the same mission, he served as deputy force commander, United Nations Mission in South Sudan. Prior to join UNMISS, he served as general officer commanding of two infantry divisions.

Education

Main was commissioned from Bangladesh Military Academy with 17th BMA Long Course in East Bengal Regiment. He received an undergraduate degree from Defence Services Command and Staff College and holds two master's degree in Strategic Studies from United States Army War College. as well as in Defense Studies from the National University, Bangladesh.[2][3]

Military career

As colonel, Main taught at the Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre. He also commanded two infantry battalions and furthermore served as garrison staff of an infantry division. As brigadier general, Main commanded an infantry brigade and was director of supply and transport directorate at army headquarters. He was soon ameliorated to major general on 2017 and commanded the 10th infantry division. He had been the commandant of Bangladesh Military Academy and also tenured at 7th Infantry Division and area commander Barisal area. He went to leave per retirement on September 2023 as director of movement and training directorate under adjutant generals branch in-spite at a two star rank.[4][5][6]

United Nations peacekeeping missions

Main was appointed for United Nations peacekeeping as deputy force commander of United Nations Mission in South Sudan. Soon after on 2020 he was designated as force commander for United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara. He returned to army headquarters on 2022 and was replaced by major general Fakhrul Ahsan as force commander. [7][8]
