Micah Immanuel Parrish (born February 17, 2001) is an American basketball player for the Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big Ten Conference. He previously played for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the San Diego State Aztecs.
Early life and high school
[edit]Parrish was born in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up watching his father and friends play summer league rec ball, inspiring him to play basketball.[1] He attended River Rouge High School in River Rouge, Michigan for first three seasons and helped his team to a 95–14 record that featured two conference titles and an appearance in the state championship game.[1] He only had one NCAA Division I offer from Detroit Mercy through his senior year, so he opted for a post-graduate year instead.[1] He transferred to Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, where his team had a 30–5 record, which resulted in a scholarship to Oakland, where he committed to play.[1]
College career
[edit]Oakland
[edit]Parrish was a starter at Oakland for his two seasons there, averaging 10.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 assists while starting in 57 out of 59 games played.[1] On April 7, 2022, he entered the transfer portal.[2]
San Diego State
[edit]On May 12, 2022, Parrish transferred to San Diego State.[3] On the first day of the 2022 Maui Invitational, he pushed San Diego State to an 88–77 win over Ohio State with 15 points and 5 rebounds.[1] In his first season with the Aztecs, Parrish tallied 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game as he helped the team make it to the national championship game.[1]
To open the 2023–24 season season, Parrish scored a season-high 17 points as the Aztecs won 83–57 over Cal State Fullerton.[1] He was named to the 2023 Continental Tire Main Event all-tournament team as the team beat Saint Mary's and Washington.[1] During his second year at SDSU, Parrish started 36 out of 37 games, with 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and a career-high 1.9 assists while playing 27.5 minutes per game.[1] On April 11, 2024, he entered the NBA draft and transfer portal for a second time.[4]
Ohio State
[edit]On April 20, 2024, Parrish transferred to play at Ohio State.[5] In his first game as a Buckeye, he dropped 17 points in a season-opening win over No. 19 Texas.[6] In an 82–65 rout over Iowa, Parrish scored 18 points.[7]
Personal life
