The Mian (Urdu: میاں) is a prominent sub caste of larger Arain clan. Which are mainly Zamindar and hold large amount of Agricultural lands before and after the partition of 1947. They served on many key positions in Pakistani politics as well as hold local influence in districts where they are get settled in after 1947. Arain in general has been very prominent from years to years and played promising role in agriculture as of Punjab famous for. Arain in large been played significant part in history of this land from many centuries now, from agriculture to politics they has been proven.
Historical background
[edit]Mian Arain is sub caste of larger Arain community. Mainly they get settled in Amritsar district and north region of Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts subsequently after moving from south punjab regions where they were first settled in after conquering Sindh in Muhammad Bin Qasim Forces. After partition of 1947, many moved in from Indian Punjab to Pakistan Punjab regions. As of today larger community of Mian Arain often use Surname Mian, Chaudhary get settled in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan, Vehari districts. Often landlords and hold larger amount of Agricultural lands. Many prominent figures well settled in Europe, USA, and United Kingdom now a days belongs to this Sub Caste.
Origins
[edit]Many Arain Arab ancestry, possibly stemming from their majority Sunni Muslim faith and the historical connection to Muhammad bin Qasim's conquest of Sindh. Some Arain trace their lineage to the Banu Sama sub-tribe of the Banu 'Amir tribe, which was part of the Aal-i-Adnan clan, through Hawazin. The word "Arain" is sometimes interpreted as an amended form of the Arabic word "Al-Raee," meaning "shepherd," reflecting an ancestral occupation. Muhammad bin Qasim's expedition, Arain historians express that Arain migrated to the subcontinent with Muhammad bin Qasim in 712 AD.

- Mian Muhammad Yusaf Manga – a noble zamindar who was appointed custodian of the Shalimar Gardens, Lahore by Mughals and received the title of 'Mian' from Mughal emperor Shah Jahan)[3]
- Jahanara Shahnawaz[4][5] (1896-1979) – politician and Muslim League activist.
- Mumtaz Shahnawaz (1912-1948) – political activist and author, who died in a plane crash at the age of 35 en route to represent Pakistan at the UN General Assembly, the first woman in Asia to preside over a legislative session
