The Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM) is a Tunis-based research center dedicated to interdisciplinary studies and academic exchange, with a focus on the Maghreb and Europe, particularly in relation to the Arab Spring.[2]
Background
[edit]The MECAM was established in April 2020 as an international center dedicated to interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration.
The project is coordinated by University of Marburg and the University of Tunis, with additional support from Leipzig University and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies. It is sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and hosted by the University of Tunis.[3]
Its research program focuses on five areas of study:
- Inequality & Mobility
- Memory & Justice
- Aesthetics & Cultural Practice
- Resources & Sustainability
- Identities & Beliefs[4]
