Merabu Kivengere also known as Canon Nyinenzangyi (1919-2020) was a Ugandan Female Canon who was instrumental in the ordainance to female priests in Uganda. In 1983 her husband Bishop Festo Kivengere became the first bishop to ordain female priests in Uganda.[1] [2]
Education and Background
[edit]She completed her studies in Hornby High School in 1936. Then she later went to do a teacher training course at Buloba. After completing her course , she went to teach at Hornby High School. She was a member in the African Evangelistic Enterprise .[3]
Career
[edit]She was concerned in engaging with activities of Hornby High School to follow up the old girls beyond school and investing in Mother's Union work in the family and community. [3][1]She supported girl child education in Bishop Kivengere Girls School Muyabe [4]
Personal life
[edit]Merabu was married to the late Bishop Festo Kivengere for 42 years with four namely Peace Kivengere, Joy Kivengere, Hope Kivengere, and Charity Kivengere.[5]
