Margarida Lapa
Margarida Santos Lapa (born 26 June 2000) is a Portuguese Paralympic sport shooter who competes in the SH2 classification (rifle with support). She represented Portugal at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, where she placed fourth in the mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH2 event, earning a Paralympic diploma. She was also one of Portugal’s flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony.
Early life
[edit]Lapa was born with muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair. She began practicing para shooting only in 2022. Due to her physical limitations, she competes with the help of a loader who handles ammunition loading during events.[1]
Career
[edit]Lapa quickly rose through the ranks in Portuguese Paralympic shooting. She secured her qualification for the 2024 Summer Paralympics less than two years after taking up the sport.[2]
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Lapa competed in the mixed 10 metre air rifle prone SH2 (R5). She qualified for the final in 8th place with a score of 636.4 points. In the final, she finished fourth with 211.1 points and received a Paralympic diploma.[3][4]
Earlier in the 2024 season, she placed fifth at the European Para Shooting Championships, her highest finish before the Games.[1]
Flag bearer
[edit]Lapa was selected, alongside swimmer Diogo Cancela, to carry the Portuguese flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.[5]
