List of storms named Leon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Leon has been used for four tropical cyclones worldwide: two in the Philippines by PAGASA in the Western Pacific Ocean, and two in the Australian region. For Philippines, the name was derived from a local word for lion, and it replaced Lawin after its devastation in the area during 2016.

In the Western Pacific:

The name Leon was retired from the naming lists after the 2024 season. It will be replaced by Lekep for the 2028 season, which means fog in Maranao language.

In the Australian region:

  • Cyclone Leon-Hanitra (1989) – a powerful tropical cyclone in the south-west Indian Ocean stayed out at sea.
  • Cyclone Leon–Eline (2000) – another powerful tropical cyclone which became the second longest-lasting tropical cyclone on record in the Southern Hemisphere.
