  1. ^ Certain award groups do not simply award one winner. They acknowledge several different recipients, have runners-up, and have third place. Since this is a specific recognition and is different from losing an award, runner-up mentions are considered wins in this award tally. For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination.

The Last of Us is an American post-apocalyptic drama television series created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO and based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog. It follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who travel across the United States in the first season, based on 2013's The Last of Us.[1] In the second season, based on 2020's The Last of Us Part II, they have settled in Jackson, Wyoming, with Joel's brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) and Ellie's friends Dina (Isabela Merced) and Jesse (Young Mazino).[2] Guest stars include Nico Parker as Joel's daughter Sarah, Anna Torv as Joel's partner Tess, Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett as isolated survivalists Bill and Frank, Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard as brothers Henry and Sam, Melanie Lynskey as resistance leader Kathleen, Storm Reid as Ellie's best friend Riley,[3][4] Kaitlyn Dever as soldier Abby, and Catherine O'Hara as Joel's therapist Gail.[2]

The Last of Us premiered on HBO on January 15, 2023, and the first season aired weekly until March 12.[5] The second season premiered in April 2025.[6] The series is the first live-action video game adaptation to receive major awards consideration.[7] From major guilds, it won two awards at the Screen Actors Guild Awards[8] and one at the Directors Guild of America Awards[9] and Writers Guild of America Awards,[10] and received two nominations at the Producers Guild of America Awards.[11] It was nominated for six British Academy Television Awards,[12] three Critics' Choice Television Awards,[13] three Golden Globe Awards,[14] and five TCA Awards,[15] and led the 1st Astra Creative Arts TV Awards with six nominations[16] and the 22nd Visual Effects Society Awards's television categories with six nominations and four wins.[17][18] In genre awards, the series was nominated for five Saturn Awards[19] and won a Hugo Award.[20] It won a Peabody Award for Entertainment,[21] and earned the biannual Seal of Authentic Representation from the Ruderman Family Foundation for Woodard's role.[22]

The series was nominated for 24 Primetime Emmy Awards, with a leading eight wins at the 75th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.[23] Ramsey, who is non-binary, considered withdrawing due to the lack of non-gendered categories following Liv Hewson's withdrawal for Yellowjackets, but decided to contend for Lead Actress after discussions with Mazin, not wanting limited language to prevent celebrating non-binary performers;[24] Ramsey's was the second non-binary acting nomination[25] and the first for a leading role[26] at time of nomination.[a] Woodard was the second-youngest Emmy nominee, the youngest for Guest Actor in a Drama Series,[29] and the first nominated Black deaf[30] and second deaf actor,[b] while Pascal was the second Latino nominated for Lead Actor in a Drama Series and the first since 1999.[31][32] His limited second-season role prompted a decision between a Lead or Supporting Actor submission,[33] while Dever similarly had to decide between Supporting and Guest Actress;[34] Pascal submitted for Lead Actor[35] and Dever for Guest Actress.[36] Over a third of the season's Emmy submissions were for the second episode.[35]
