The Kuching District is an administrative district within Kuching Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. It is divided into two subdistrict area which is Kuching Proper and Padawan. The total resident population in this district as until 2024 was 514,658 inhabitants, as based on a recent survey by Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM). This total population makes Kuching District as the only most populous district in Sarawak.


Subdistrict areas
[edit]The Kuching District is divided into three different subdistrict areas:
- North Kuching (Kuching Utara) :
Samariang, Kampung Semerah Padi, Rampangi, Santubong, Telaga Air, Kampung Buntal, Matang, Malihah, Rambungan, Petra Jaya, Satok, Muara Tebas, Sejingkat, Siol Kandis, Kampung Bako, Demak Laut, and Tanjung Embang.
- South Kuching (Kuching Selatan) :
Padungan, Sekama, Bintawa, Pending, Tabuan Jaya, Kenyalang Park, Batu Lintang, Hui Sing Park, BDC, Sungai Maong, and Stutong.
- Padawan :
Batu Kawah, Moyan, Arang Road, Stapok, Kampung Segedup, Kota Sentosa, Stakan, Batu Kitang, Kampung Semeba, Kota Padawan (10th Mile), Landeh, Mambong, Semadang, Punau, Benuk, Simboh, Teng Bukap, Kampung Quop, Kampung Annah Rais, and Kampung Seratau.

Transportation
[edit]Most road transportation that available in Kuching are buses, taxis, e-hailing, and mini vans (known locally as 'Van Sapu') which still popular among all community in this district area.
Government of Sarawak has planned to build a new first modern cycling bridge. This new modern cycling bridge will be connecting between Batu Kawa New Township (MJC Batu Kawa) and Pines Square City, Batu Kawa. Residents in Batu Kawa area can allowed to walking or ride bicycle away in this cycling bridge, without crossing the busiest road and also as the best solution to preventing road accidents among pedestrian and bicycle riders.
