Julián Andrés Quiñones Quiñones (born 24 March 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward or winger for Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah. Born in Colombia, he represents the Mexico national team.[3]
Club career
[edit]Early Career
[edit]Quiñones commenced his professional journey at Futbol Paz, an amateur football club located in Cali, Colombia. In the 2014-2015 season, he netted 50 goals across 38 matches, prompting Tigres UANL to recruit him for their U-20 team.[4] In January 2016, he was loaned to Ascenso MX club Venados.
Quiñones spent the Apertura 2017 on loan at Lobos BUAP. He finished as the tournament's third-highest scorer with nine goals. In the Clausura 2018, Quiñones would once again be the top goal scorer for Lobos BUAP, scoring eight goals.
In the summer of 2018, Quiñones rejoined Tigres UANL. Despite his stellar form with Lobos BUAP, head coach Ricardo Ferretti relegated him to a secondary role.
Atlas
[edit]On 16 June 2021, Quiñones joined Atlas on a one-year loan.[5] Six months later, the move became permanent after Atlas acquired the player.[6] Quiñones won back-to-back league titles with Atlas, ending a 70-year drought for the club.
América
[edit]On 3 July 2023, Club América reached an agreement with Atlas to sign Quiñones.[7]
Al Qadsiah
[edit]On 20 June 2024, Quiñones joined Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah on a four-year contract.[8][9]
International career
[edit]Colombia
[edit]Quiñones previously represented Colombia at the 2017 South American U-20 Championship and later at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. In May 2023, he declined a call-up to the Colombia national team.[10][11]
Mexico
[edit]On 3 September 2023, Quiñones received an invitation to train with the Mexico national team. The player had previously expressed interest in playing for Mexico.[12] On 11 October, Quiñones completed his naturalization process.[13] On 9 November, he received his first call-up.[14] Quiñones made his debut in a CONCACAF Nations League match against Honduras on 17 November.[15] He scored his first goal on 21 March 2024 in a semi-final match of the CONCACAF Nations League against Panama, scoring the 2nd goal of the game in the 43rd minute. Mexico went on to win the match 3-0.
