Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers[a] an anime television series based on the video game series Guilty Gear. Produced by Sanzigen and Arc System Works, it takes place shortly after the events of Guilty Gear Strive (2021).[1] The series premiered in April 5, 2025, on Tokyo MX and other networks. The opening theme song is "AXCLUSION", performed by rock band ulma sound junction [ja]. Crunchyroll licensed the series to watch online.[2][3]

Production

The series was annouced on June 14, 2024 on Arc System Works twitter. The studio subsequently released a trailer for the series on Youtube.[4] The first episode "Ceremony" released on April 4.[5]

Plot

The plot centers around "Gears," which in universe are magical creatures made with the intention of the advancement of human evolution. Some gears began fighting against humans leading to a 100 year long global conflict known as the Crusades. Years after the Crusades, Ky Kiske, a human, and Dizzy, a Gear, are getting married, hoping to promote peaceful co-existence between humanity and Gears. Their wedding is interrupted by the new antagonist, Unika, who hopes to destroy all Gears. The story follows Ky and Dizzy's son, Sin Kiske, as he tracks down Unika. Other characters from the Guilty Gear series, such as Sol Badguy, Ramlethal Valentine, Baiken, Johnny, Bridget, and more also play prominent roles in the plot.[6]

Reception

Overall reception to the early series was largely positive, with particular praise towards the series animation, and character interactions.[10] The 2-3d fusion the series is well known for, and the extensive worldbuilding of the series were generally positive.[11] Attention was drawn however little effort put into explaining the lore of the previous games.[12]
