Fabian Wayne Edwards, known professionally by his stage name FyaVerse (/fəvɜːrs/ born 16 November 1999), is a Jamaican dancehall fusion singer-songwriter. He rose to attention with the track “Shatta Gyal”,[1][2] a collaboration with Dutch producer ChevoBeatz released in 2023,[3] which later entered the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 in 2024. His music incorporates themes of social consciousness, with tracks such as “Times Dread” and “Ganja Forest” addressing issues of resilience, community, and the human experience, while also reflecting broader social and political contexts within Jamaica.[4]

Career

[edit]

In 2019, he began working with Dutch producer ChevoBeatz, resulting in a series of collaborations. Their 2023 release “Shatta Gyal” was featured on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100[5][6][7] and aired on Hype TV Jamaica in 2025.

They followed up with the single “Time's Dread”,[1] which reached the top position on Jamaica’s Fiwi Choice Top 10 chart. It was nominated for Best Reggae Act at the 2025 HDP Music Awards.[8]

in later 2023, Edwards collaborated with Jamaican musician Marlon B, a member of the German band group Söhne Mannheim. The collaboration was based at Big Yaad Studio in Kingston, during which time FyaVerse resided and worked in the city’s music-centric communities of Cassia Park and Red Hills Road.[9]

Edwards went on to release his debut album “Rak Di Wrld” a stylized nod to “Rock the World” in 2025 which was co produced by ChevoBeatz and WrldClassic Records and distributed by Virgin Island, the album features Nigerian artiste Danjay Seduction.[10] according to Dagblad Suriname in few weeks of the album released “Rak Di Wrld” was already climbing Itunes chart which debuted at (#1) in Barbados and quickly climb in the US (#4), UK (#9) and Suriname (#14).[11]

In 2024, Edwards was arrested in Bridgetown, Barbados for marijuana possession during a traffic stop.[12]

Biography

[edit]

Edwards was born in Manchester, Jamaica. He is of Jamaican and Guyanese descent. He studied music at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica, where he began shaping his musical style.[13] He was raised in a multicultural household, with his mother half Guyanese and Barbadian descent and his father of Jamaican origin. During his early years, he was raised by his great-grandmother, Gretel Myrie, in Jamaica.

in 2019, Edwards developed an early exposure to music through his uncle, Ojay Dias, who frequently played reggae and dancehall through car sound systems. This early environment introduced him to influential Jamaican artists including Junior Reid, Luciano, Capleton, Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, and Shabba Ranks. Over time, he began to sing along to their music and eventually adapted the lyrics, adding his own compositions.

Edwards began pursuing music more seriously during his secondary education, joining a school based music group known as N.F.G (New Flex Generation). He also began working with local artist Wolde “Iamedz” West, forming a creative partnership that led to the establishment of Back Yard Production, later renamed MedzMuzic Records.

Their first collaborative track, Rollingz, is considered the informal start of his professional music career. This collaboration culminated in the release of their joint album “Classic Legend”. Performing under the initial stage name Lil Fya, Edwards focused primarily on deejaying before transitioning to melody based songwriting. The name FyaVerse was later adopted during a conversation with a friend, who suggested the term to reflect his lyrical style. Retaining “Fya” as a reference to his earlier identity, he added “Verse” to emphasize his songwriting focus.[9]
