Eden Spencer Blackman (7 September 1967 – 21 June 2025) was an English music executive, businessman, dating coach and television personality. He was best known for appearing on the E4 dating reality series Celebs Go Dating (2016–2018).

Early life

[edit]

Eden Spencer Blackman was born in Newport, Shropshire, England on 7 September 1967,[1][2][3] as the only child to David S W Blackman,[4] an area manager, and his wife, Margaret A (née Davies), a housewife. His parents were married in Pontypool, Monmouthshire on 6 May 1967.[5]

Career

[edit]

Blackman rose to fame as a dating coach[6][7] on the E4 dating series Celebs Go Dating.[8] The show was produced by Lime Pictures. The first series began broadcasting on 29 August 2016. He announced his departure from the series on 30 March 2018,[9][10] following the fourth series,[11] which concluded on 1 March 2018.[12]

Blackman founded the dating website Would Like To Meet in November 2012.[13] He worked as a music executive at ish media.[14] He also worked as a DJ at Soho Radio.[15] He previously worked at EMI. He was featured on Balls Out (2011), the second studio album by the American glam metal band Steel Panther. He was listed as guest background gang vocals.[16] He also appeared on BBC Radio 1[17] and BBC Radio 5 Live.[18]

Blackman appeared in the television film How to Make a Number One Record.[19] He appeared on the BBC News weekday current affairs programme Victoria Derbyshire.[20] He made several appearances on the ITV daytime magazine programme This Morning[21][22][23][24] and on the ITV talk show Loose Women.[25][26][27] He appeared on the Channel 4 television programme Sunday Brunch.[28]

Personal life

[edit]

Blackman once dated Chanelle Sadie Paul, who appeared as a contestant on Celebs Go Dating. In 2018, Paul claimed that Blackman cheated on her with a 'Kim Kardashian lookalike'.[29]

[edit]

In 2018, Blackman became the subject of trolling on social media by his former Celebs Go Dating co-host Nadia Essex, leading to her suspension from the series.[30][31][32] Essex was removed from the show midway through filming of the fifth series in September 2018, reportedly due to "improper use of social media".[33][34][35] Lime Pictures issued a statement confirming Essex's suspension, saying she was "found to be setting up fake accounts to troll certain users – which is something that won't be tolerated".[36] Despite admitting to setting up several trolling Twitter accounts, Essex subsequently started legal proceedings against Blackman and Lime Pictures.[37][38] Essex's case against Blackman was thrown out of court but Blackman obtained a harassment order against Essex in 2020, due to the "false claims Ms Essex made against" him. If Essex breached the order she would have faced "fines, have her assets seized, or be imprisoned if comments are found to contain content deemed as harassment".[39]

On 8 November 2020, Blackman revealed that he had been diagnosed by an independent practitioner as suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, and that he was at suicide risk "caused by the actions of Lime Pictures and Nadia Essex".[40]

Death

[edit]

Blackman died on 21 June 2025, following a long illness. He was 57. His death was announced to the public three days later, on 24 June,[41] in a statement from his family to his official Instagram account, @edenblackman,[42] which, in part, read:[43]

"We are heartbroken to share that our beloved Eden passed away on 21 June 2025, after carrying a long illness with quiet grace. [...] We ask for privacy as we find our way through this loss, and thank you for your love and kindness 🤍"[44][45]

Tributes poured in from Blackman's family, friends, and fans,[46] with Example, Fearne Cotton, Zoe Ball, Bobby Norris, Calum Best, Seb Morris, and Tallia Storm among those who paid tribute.[47][48] His former Celebs Go Dating co-host, Nadia Essex, uploaded a ten-minute video on her YouTube channel, titled "My Statement on Edens Passing";[49] the show's receptionist, and later junior client coordinator, Tom Read Wilson,[50] and his successors, Paul Carrick Brunson and Anna Williamson, also paid tribute.[51]
