Submission declined on 30 July 2025 by Qcne (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Valerio Esposito Italian American Film Director
[edit]German newspapers described Valerio Esposito's first American film, Calico Skies, starring Tom Sizemore, Vincent Pastore, and Charlotte De Bruyne, as “reminiscent of David Lynch” (DeMorgen).[1]. The Rheinpfalz stated, “The director's touch and writing are reminiscent of Clint Eastwood."[2]
On the show Entertainers with Byron Allen, Tom Sizemore described Valerio Esposito as “the best young writer and director I have ever worked with.”[3][4]
After earning his degree in Literature and Philosophy in Rome, he joined the prestigious University of Southern California (USC) for a Master’s in Film and Television Production.
His latest film, Double Soul, shot between Rome and Dubai, stars Oscar winners F. Murray Abraham and Danny Glover, and features Paz Vega, and Italian stars Marco Bocci, Marianna Fontana, and Angela Fontana. This film is also Julian Sands last film. He died during a hike on a mountain in California shortly after finishing the filming[5].
Valerio has worked for many years as an assistant director and second unit director in both Hollywood and Italian cinema, collaborating with stars such as Christopher Lloyd, William Shatner, Jean Smart, Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones, Billy Zane, and Robert Davi.
He has worked as assistant director on his friend Fausto Brizzi’s first film Notte Prima degli Esami, and in 2019 on La mia Banda Suona il Pop, starring Christian De Sica and Diego Abatantuono, and in 2025 on Dove osano le cicogne, starring Angelo Pintus and Beatrice Arnera.
He has worked for over four years in Los Angeles at Netflix USA as an in-house producer, and for agencies such as Publicis Sapient. He currently lives between Los Angeles, New York, and Rome. His first film, Calico Skies, won the 65th Mannheim-Heidelberg Cinema Owners Grand Jury Prize[6]
Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Valerio was granted honorary dual citizenship in the USA in 2021 for his artistic achievements.
