Two Little Pearls are piano pieces by the composer Antonín Dvořák.
Background
[edit]Both pieces were composed on November 11, 1887, when he was still traveling abroad frequently, especially in England and Austria. They were intended for the 7th edition of the Young Czech Pianist Collection, published by Urbánek in Prague. These miniatures are intended for young artists to practice with. Both pieces correspond to dances. "In a Ring" (Do kola) is in F major (vivace; 2/4 time), corresponds to the pattern of a da capo aria, and consists of 72 bars. Part B is in the subdominant key of B-flat major. The polka could serve as a dance inspiration for this. "Grandpa Dances with Grandma" (Dědeček tančí s babičkou) is in the key of G minor, is in 3/8 time, and has the tempo marking Allegretto grazioso. The form here is ABACABA and consists of 74 bars; the first eight bars are repeated. Section B is in B-flat major, and section C is in G major. Both the rondo and the mazurka could serve as inspiration here.
