The state of Meghalaya in North-East India, is famous for its unique living root bridges, high rainfall, and rich biodiversity.[1][2] Meghalaya shares its border with Assam and Bangladesh.[3][4]
The Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation is the governmental body that works to promote tourism in Meghalaya.
Major attractons
[edit]A landscape of towering monoliths, boats drifting on pristine waters, and cascading waterfalls flowing over ancient rocks hidden within a secluded forest.
- Dawki - Shnongdeng: The Dawki is famous for Umngot River, which is also known as the Dawki River. This is famous for its crystal-clear waters and is considered one of the cleanest rivers in the country.[5][6][7]

- Krang Suri Waterfall: Located near Jowai in the West Jaintia Hills district, Krang Suri Falls is renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters.

- Kudengrim: This place is famous for its waterfalls and living root bridge.[8][9]

- Nartiang Durga Temple: It is a 600-year-old temple located in the West Jaintia Hills district.[10] It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is one of the holiest sites for devotees of the Shaktism sect of Hinduism.[11] The Hindus in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya believes that this temple is the permanent abode of Goddess Durga.

- Cherrapunji (Sohra): Sohra has often been credited as being the wettest place on Earth. It was the traditional capital of ka hima Sohra (Khasi tribal kingdom).

- Shillong: Shillong is a hill station and the capital of Meghalaya.[12] Shillong remained the capital of undivided Assam until the creation of the new state of Meghalaya on 21 January 1972.[13] It is a popular tourist destination known for its scenic landscapes, waterfalls, and pleasant climate.
- Shillong Heritage Walk
- Ka Phan Nonglait Park: The park stretches over a kilometre and has an adjacent mini zoo.
- Ward's Lake: Known locally as Nan-Polok. It is an artificial lake with garden and boating facilities, built during the colonial era.
- Shillong Golf Course: Shillong has one of the largest natural golf courses in Asia: Gleneagles of the East.
- Don Bosco Museum
- Elephant Falls: 12 km on the outskirts of the city, the mountain stream descends through three successive falls set in dells of fern covered rocks.[14]
- Sweet Falls: Sweet Falls (also called "Weitdem", in the native dialect) is a waterfall located about 5 km from the Happy Valley and is about 96 m in height.
- Siju Cave: It is a renowned limestone cave famous for its impressive stalagmite and stalactite formations.
- Chandigre: Chandigre embraces you with its orchards and plantations.
- Tura peak: The hills around Tura are thriving with life – species like hornbills and gibbons are just some of the many treasures of this diverse and rich landscape. Tura Peak (872 m (2,861 ft)) is on the eastern side of Tura.[15][16][17] During the British rule, the Deputy Commissioner used to spend the summers in a cottage at Tura Peak.
