Than Than Nu is a Burmese radio broadcaster and author. He is also the chairman of the Democratic Party (Myanmar).[1]
Early Life
[edit]Born on October 3, 1947, in Yangon to U Nu and Daw Mya Yi. He studied at the Yangon University of Economics from 1964 to 1968. He went to India with Than Than Nu in April 1969, when his father fled due to political turmoil.
From 1980 to 2003, he worked as a translator for All India Radio, the state-owned Indian broadcasting company.
He returned to Myanmar in March 2003.
Entering politics
[edit]Than Than Nu entered party politics in 2010 by joining the founding team of the Democratic Party (Myanmar), under the leadership of U Thu Wai.[2] She served as the party's Secretary-General.After the death of U Thu Wai on 18 May 2022,[3]she was elected as the Chairperson of the Democratic Party (Myanmar) by party members.[4][5]Than Than Nu contested the 2010 Myanmar general election as a candidate for the National Assembly from Mandalay Region Constituency No.2[6] and the 2015 Myanmar general election as a candidate for the Pyithu Hluttaw from Kyauktada Constituency[7][8] in Yangon Region but was unsuccessful.
Family life
[edit]Than Than Nu has two sons, Shein Min and Aung Si. Shein Min lives in Los Angeles, United States, and Aung Si works as a researcher in Canberra, Australia.[9]
