Tallahassee (TLH) Reckoning is a women's pre-professional soccer club based in Tallahassee, Florida. Established in 2023, it is the city's first-ever women's pre-professional soccer franchise.[1]The club competes in the USL W League, a national pre-professional women's soccer league in the United States. [2]

History

On June 21, 2023, the USL W League announced Tallahassee Reckoning as a new expansion team. TLH Reckoning fielded both a pre-professional W League team and a USL Academy team, with inaugural seasons played in 2024. TLH Reckoning was founded by Dr. Ashlee Fontes. [3] An alumna of Florida State University's women's soccer program and a former founding leader of the Washington Spirit. Dr. Fontes created opportunities for local female soccer players in Tallahassee.[1] TLH Reckoning competed in their USL W League game on May 9, 2024 and secured its first victory on defeating Brooke House FC 2-0 [4]

Inaugural Season

The inaugural season began in May 2024, with TLH Reckoning competing in the USL W League. The team earned its first win on May 9, 2024, defeating Brooke House Academy 2-0.[5] Home matches are held at Gene Cox Stadium, known as 'The Nest’.[2]

Mission and Community Engagement

The club focuses on providing development opportunities for female athletes at various levels, from youth to free-professional. It operates year-round as a player development center from youth to pre-professional, which began in August 2023.[2] TLH Reckoning hosted its first free community clinic at Gene Cox Stadium, as apart of its commuity engagement efforts.[2]

Professional Player Pathway

In December 2024, TLH Reckoning partnered with NJ/NY Gotham FC, the 2023 NWSL Champions, to establish a professional player pathway in Tallahassee. This collaboration aims to create players with opportunities to advance to the professional level.[6]

Tallahassee Reckoning Day Proclamation

On June 21, 2024 Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey offically declared "Tallahassee Reckoning Day"[7] This day recognized the club's role in supporting athletic development in the community.[7] Local officials, supporters, and team representatives attended the event to acknowledge the club's contributions to the city's sports landscape.
