Từ Nguyên Tĩnh (born Lê Văn Tĩnh; November 15, 1949) is a Vietnamese writer who was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts. He was born in Bàn Thạch village, Xuân Quang, Thọ Xuân, Thanh Hóa. He has written under various pen names, including Vân Anh, Từ Nguyên, Thạch Bàn, and Tư Ngũ Y Tĩnh.
Biography
[edit]Từ Nguyên Tĩnh graduated from the Faculty of Literature at Hanoi General University (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi). Between 1965 and 1975, he participated in the Vietnam War against the United States. In 1994, he joined the Thanh Hóa Association of Literature and Arts, where he served as Vice President and as the Editor-in-Chief of Xứ Thanh Literary Magazine. He was also a member of the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Association of Historical Science.
His first work, the poem "Anh viết cho em" (I Write for You), was published in 1967 in Người bạn Văn Hóa Thanh Hóa (Thanh Hóa Cultural Friend).
He has two children, a son and a daughter.
Career
[edit]Từ Nguyên Tĩnh is the author of over 20 collections of short stories, novels, essays, and poetry. His works explore diverse themes, including:
- Rural life during the period of economic and social transformation
- The Vietnamese military during the war against the United States
- Contemporary social and political issues
- The spiritual and intellectual struggles of individuals amidst modern social upheavals.
His writing is noted for its keen sensitivity to social issues, a unique storytelling approach, sharp psychological analysis, and a rational yet profound perspective:[1].
