Supreet K Singh is a writer, filmmaker, and social impact professional. She is the co-founder and CEO of Red Dot Foundation – Safecity, an organization that collects and analyses data on gender-based violence in public spaces. She is also the co-founder of BeyondBlack, a social enterprise that uses art to address social issues. Her written work includes a poetry collection titled Wine, Love and Tango and the "She Is" Series, a set of books focused on women’s experiences and contributions. She is trained as a Yoga Acharya and Personal Counsellor, with experience in both direct and indirect methods of counselling. Her work spans the nonprofit, corporate, and creative sectors, with a focus on community engagement, gender sensitization, and storytelling.[1] [2]
Early Life and Education, and Work
[edit]Supreet K. Singh was born into a military family and grew up across various regions in India. She earned a degree in Finance and International Management from the Institute of Finance and International Management between (1996-1998). She began her career in the sales and marketing department of United Breweries Group, becoming the first female to hold a managerial position in the company's liquor division. She later worked with Kingfisher Airlines and Grover Zampa Vineyards. After over a decade in corporate marketing, Supreet transitioned into social impact and creative storytelling, co-founding Red Dot Foundation- Safecity with with Elsa Marie D’Silva.[3]
Film and Writing Career
[edit]Supreet K. Singh is a writer, director, and producer whose work focuses on social issues. Her debut short film Bouddi received the Best Director and Best Film awards at the Cine India Film Festival and represented India at the International French Film Festival in July 2016. Her film Nirbhaya Mai, Asifa Mai won the Best Director award at the Women’s Safety and Empowerment Short Film Festival.
Supreet has directed several topical advertisements for Amul, contributing to the brand’s tradition of using current events in its advertising. She has also worked on documentaries, commercials, and social campaigns centered on women’s issues, including the Cannes-nominated film Bioscope Stories Vs. Bollywood, produced in collaboration with Ogilvy & Mather Singapore.
In addition to filmmaking, Supreet authored the poetry collection Wine, Love and Tango and co-authored the She Is series, which profiles women leaders in STEAM, water advocacy, and chemistry. Her work across film and literature focuses on gender justice and amplifying underrepresented voices.[4] [5] [6]
Red Dot Foundation- Safecity
[edit]Supreet K. Singh is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Red Dot Foundation – Safecity, a platform that collects and maps reports of gender-based violence in public spaces. Under her leadership, the platform has gathered over 55,000 incident reports from more than 20 countries, using data analytics to identify safety hotspots and inform public authorities and communities.
Singh has led workshops and ambassador training programs on bystander intervention, legal literacy (including the POSH and POCSO Acts), and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has also integrated art-based interventions into the organization’s community engagement efforts, curating film screenings, exhibitions, poetry readings, and performances at events such as the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. These initiatives aim to foster public dialogue on gender-based violence and promote community participation in safety initiatives.[7]
Advocacy and Outreach
[edit]Supreet K. Singh leads Red Dot Foundation’s outreach initiatives, developing and implementing safety programs in urban and rural regions across India.
Supreet has collaborated with the Haryana Police to conduct community safety perception studies and design targeted interventions. Through partnerships with UN-Habitat and the Her City program, she has led spatial safety audits to promote gender-sensitive urban planning.
Supreet frequently engages with survivors of gender-based violence and is a speaker at national and international forums on gender equality and public safety.[8]
Other Ventures
[edit]Outside her core work in gender advocacy and filmmaking, Supreet K. Singh has remained involved in a range of parallel initiatives. She is a certified yoga instructor (Yoga Acharya) and a trained personal counsellor, often incorporating these skills into community-based work. In 2023, she served as a member of the international jury for the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival, an initiative led by the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations and the International Organization for Migration. She also sits on the advisory board of the SamaBhav Film Festival, which focuses on gender and inclusion through cinema. Singh is additionally a director at Pink Cow, a designer clothing brand for children.[9]
