Storage Resource Reutilization System is an IT infrastructure architecture that manages heterogeneous asymmetric storage devices. In this architecture environment, hardware units such as servers and hard drives from different manufacturers and with different configurations are managed in a distributed storage cluster, and reasonable load balancing is performed on each node, thereby reducing overall storage costs by improving storage utilization.[1]This term is a new word derived from "storage cluster". This means that different types of hardware resources can be utilized in the storage cluster, regardless of the brand, configuration, or working condition of these resources.[2]
Characteristics
[edit]In summary, the storage resource reutilization system can optimize storage utilization and reduce procurement, management, and maintenance costs by optimizing the infrastructure. The difference between edge cloud and storage resource reutilization system is that edge cloud focuses on how to bring resources closer to where the data is generated, while storage resource reutilization system focuses on how to make the most of these resources.[3]Due to the diversity of its external environment, edge cloud emphasizes edge device management, network reliability, and security and privacy. Storage resource reutilization, due to the diversity of its internal environment, emphasizes compatibility, high availability, and high reliability.[4]
Implications
[edit]The storage resource reutilization system eliminates the need for enterprises to implement different management strategies for servers of different brands and configurations, and HDD hard drives or SSD solid state drives of different sizes. Just like hyper-converged infrastructure, although the storage resource reutilization system cannot currently replace mainstream storage systems in the market, it will reduce the burden of data center management and improve resource utilization.[5]
