St. Joseph’s Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (SJIHMCT) is a higher education institution located in Choondacherry, near Palai, in the Kottayam district of Kerala, India. It is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and offers undergraduate programs in hotel management.[1][2] The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accredited St. Joseph's Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Palai with a 'B' grade in its first cycle of accreditation. The assessment was conducted under the revised NAAC framework effective from July 2017, based on a peer team visit held on 19–20 December 2024. The institution was awarded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.48.[3]
History and Administration
[edit]The institution was established in 2010 and is managed by the Catholic Diocese of Palai under the patronage of St. Joseph’s Educational and Charitable Trust.[4] It was founded with the aim of delivering professional education and training in hospitality and tourism management, particularly focusing on rural and underserved communities.[5]

Academic Programs
[edit]SJIHMCT offers a four-year Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) degree program. The program is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and recognized by the Government of Kerala. The curriculum integrates academic learning with practical training in areas such as:

- Front office operations
- Housekeeping
- Hospitality management
The institution includes soft skills modules and finishing school training to enhance employability.[13]

The institute has established an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) under the Kerala Startup Mission to foster innovation and entrepreneurial skills among students.[16]
Social Engagement
[edit]SJIHMCT operates NSS Unit No. 272, actively participating in community service programs such as Haritha Sabha and Sneharamam. The unit has adopted a government upper primary school in Alanadu as part of its outreach initiatives.[17]
