Siddhartha (Sid) Shankara Rao is an American businessman, software developer, and computer scientist. He is the co-founder and CEO of Positron Networks.

Career

In 2004, he joined CTI Group as a chief technology officer and served until 2014. He worked as an executive leader and a board member, and his role included directing a software development team of 75 people. At CTI Group, he launched the SmartRecord IP product in 2006, which recorded calls for distributed, hosted contact centers. In 2009, Rao and members of his development team were awarded a patent for SmartRecord IP: US 7,548,609: “Process for Scalable Conversation Recording.” In 2011, Vodafone Iceland deployed SmartRecord. SmartRecord recorded calls placed on multiple telephone platforms including BroadSoft BroadWorks and M6, Avaya Aura, Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM), and SpeakerBus iTurret.[1][2][3][4]

In 2016, he started working at Amazon Chime as a senior software development manager and launched the acquisition of Biba Systems. In 2020, he became the General Manager. He launched an API, the Amazon Chime SDK, and Voice Connector, allowing customers to move communication services to AWS, which is available with improved audio quality in eighteen regions worldwide. Slack started using the Amazon Chime SDK to power voice and video calls in 2020.[5] Slack will continue to use this API to power its Huddles feature. Rao sponsored and led the team that developed Opus 2.0 while in this capacity, which uses machine learning for packet loss concealment. He spoke about cloud communication services on behalf of AWS’ reinvent 2021 and 2022. Rao would serve as the general manager till December 2023, after which he would found Positorn Networks.

In December 2023, He co-founded Positron Networks with Curtis Hartmann, Larry Augustin, Leanne Churchward, and Nate Habegger and has since served as the firm’s CEO.[6]
