Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth (also known as Tapobhoomi Gurupeeth) is a Hindu religious and cultural institution located in Kundaim, Goa, India.[1] The institution focuses on the study and practice of Sanatan Dharma, Vedanta, and Hindu philosophy. It is engaged in religious, educational, and social welfare activities.[2][3]
History
[edit]The Peeth follows the Guru-Shishya Parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) of Hinduism. It traces its origins to Padmanabhacharya Swami, an early spiritual leader in the tradition. Subsequent figures associated with the institution include:
- Sadanandacharya Swami – Established Sushen Datta Mandir in Haturli, Maharashtra.[4]
- Brahmanand Acharya Swami – Established Tapobhoomi Ashram, the present headquarters of the Peeth.[5]
- Brahmeshanandacharya Swami – The current Peethadhishwar (spiritual head).[6]
The Peeth is associated with the worship of Lord Dattatreya and follows rituals and teachings based on Vedic texts and Hindu scriptures.[7]
Teachings and Practices
[edit]The Peeth follows the Advaita Vedanta school of Hindu philosophy, which emphasizes the non-dual nature of reality and the oneness of the individual soul with Brahman.[8] Its teachings focus on the study of key texts such as the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Puranas.[9][10]
The Peeth also conducts religious ceremonies, discourses, and community service initiatives. It has been involved in organizing spiritual events and cultural programs related to Hindu traditions.[11][12][13]
Activities
[edit]The Peeth's activities encompass religious ceremonies, community service, and educational initiatives, with a particular emphasis on Sanskrit and Vedic studies[14][15]
