Dr. Saleh Malaikah (born 1960) (Arabic, مالئكة جميل صالح .د ) is a Saudi businessman, financier and economist. He was born in Saudi Arabia but spent his early years in Cairo, Egypt. He is the founder and Chairman of Rusd Holding Group[1], with experience in Islamic banking and financial services.

Early life and education

Dr. Malaikah earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in 1981, followed by a Master’s degree in business from KFUPM in 1984. He completed his Doctorate in business administration with a specialization in finance and investment at Michigan State University in 1990.

Career

Dr. Malaikah worked as an associate professor of finance and investment at KFUPM, later he served as the CEO of Al Baraka[2] Investment and Development Company and the Chairman of Al-Tawfeek Company for Investment Funds and Al Amin Bank in Bahrain. In 2002, Dr. Malaikah established Rusd Investment Bank Inc.[3] in Labuan, Malaysia ’s offshore financial sector, aiming to strengthen Sharia-compliant financial connections between GCC countries and Malaysia.

He has also made significant contributions to the Takaful[4] (Islamic insurance) and Re-Takaful (Islamic reinsurance) industries. He has chaired several companies, including BEST-Re , which operates across various countries. He also founded and led subsidiaries under the Salama Group[5].

Awards

Dr. Malaikah has received several awards for his contributions to Islamic finance, including recognition from the Islamic Banking and Finance Forum in 1997, 1998 Lifetime Achievement Award, Islamic Banking & Finance Symposium (LARIBA[6] ) for his work in structuring financial transactions.

Personal Life

Dr. Malaikah has a son and four daughters. In 2002, he survived the crash of Egypt Air Flight 843[7]
