Kristóf Maczeovics & Benedek Makrai, (Budapest, Hungary, born 2 October 1996 & 27 January 1996) better known as SaberZ, are DJ's and record producer oriented to EDM, Big Room House, Electro House, and Progressive House.
Creation of SaberZ
[edit]Kristóf Maczeovics and Benedek Makrai are two Hungarian friends that started their music career producing Electronic dance music separately in 2011, and met on SoundCloud in 2014 under their individual names «Corvo», Kristóf Maczeovics alias, and «MindControl», Benedek Makrai's alias, before forming a duo later, called SaberZ. Kristóf is from Budapest, whereas Benedek is from Nyíregyháza, a city in north-eastern Hungary (Northern Hungary). Benedek, previously known as «MindControl», played the guitar for seven years at Apaczai Csere Janos school and graduated from the Fényi Gyula Jesuit High School in Nyíregyháza. Years later, he graduated from the Budapest Metropolitan University in Budapest. At the age of 14 he was a promising basketball referee but he gave up the sport to focus exclusively on his music career. Due to his interest in how Electronic Music is made while he was in high school, he started learning tricks from music production tutorials until he made his first «MindControl» single in 2011, winning a local DJ Competition in Nyíregyháza the year after.[1] Kristóf and Benedek would meet in 2014 on SoundCloud where they would check out and support each other's music. After a while, they started talking on facebook about collaborating in productions; making about 10 collaborations in the end before «SaberZ» was born. Since they worked very well together and complemented one another perfectly, they would finally end up forming a group project in August 2014, named SaberZ.[2][3]
Music Career
[edit]2014–2016: Beginning of SaberZ and first free releases
[edit]In their early years, they focused on building a presence online through independently released tracks and unofficial remixes, distributed for free on platforms such as SoundCloud and YouTube. Their first release as SaberZ, "Zentorno", was made available as a free download in September 2014. The track combined energetic big room elements with festival-style drops, a style that would come to characterize many of their later productions. Though released without label support, it helped them gain attention among online listeners, particularly within the emerging EDM scenes in Eastern Europe. Throughout 2015 and 2016, SaberZ released several additional tracks and bootlegs, continuing to develop their sound. In September 2015, they collaborated with British producer Olly James on a bootleg remix of the song Maria, which was also distributed for free online. This marked their first public collaboration with an international artist and expanded their visibility beyond Hungary. In 2016, they released a string of non-label tracks including "Waiting for You", "Rock & Roll", and "Parachutes". These productions continued to explore big room house and progressive house elements, often drawing comparisons to the styles of established artists such as W&W, Blasterjaxx, and Hardwell. Although unofficial, these tracks were shared widely through DJ forums and music sharing platforms, gradually building SaberZ a grassroots following. During this period, the duo also began experimenting with remixing well-known tracks, producing unofficial edits that circulated informally among fans and DJs. Notable examples include "9PM (Till I Come)" by ATB, "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber, "Purple Lamborghini" by Skrillex and Rick Ross, and a reinterpretation of O-Zone’s "Dragostea Din Tei". While not officially released through labels, these remixes contributed to their recognition in the online EDM community and were frequently supported in DJ sets and online mixes. While none of these early releases charted or appeared on official labels, they played a role in helping SaberZ establish their identity as producers. By the end of 2016, the duo had developed a recognizable sound and gained modest traction within the online EDM community, positioning them for more prominent releases in the years that followed.
