Phidi Soepangkat (born October 12, 1971) is an Indonesian entrepreneur and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of DesktopIP, an IT infrastructure company specializing in virtualization technology.[1] The company is headquartered in Ireland and conducts its Research and Development (R&D) in Indonesia.

Through conducting R&D in the Archipelago, Phidi demonstrates his confidence in the country’s potential to build and develop global-scaled digital products. Beyond his business endeavors, Phidi actively advocates the digital sovereignty initiative, one of which is the Digital Sovereignty Stack, a framework aimed at contributing to nations achieving a sovereign digital ecosystem.

Early Life and Education

Phidi Soepangkat was born on October 12, 1971. Phidi’s early education took place at Pangudi Luhur School in Jakarta, where he completed primary and secondary studies.[2] Upon graduating from high school in 1990, he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Maryland, followed by a Master’s Degree in the same field at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. Career

After completing his master’s degree, Phidi started his professional journey in 1998 as a Chemical Engineer at Eastman Kodak. At that film company, his primary responsibility was developing automated chemical reactor software for film production processes.[2] Phidi's career in the computer industry was shaped by his foundational experiences in Computer Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

In 2001, Phidi expanded his journey in technology as a Software Engineer within the Storage Division at International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and Tucson, Arizona. After nearly a decade of dedicated service, he advanced through several pivotal technical and managerial positions. Phidi also provided strategic oversight of multiple software and hardware development initiatives while spearheading the formation of a globally integrated team that matured into a high-impact unit within the company. Phidi returned to his homeland, Indonesia, and built DesktopIP in 2012 to catalyze the nation’s technological evolution. His objective was to transform Indonesia’s role within the technological arena from that of a passive recipient to an active innovator.[2] [4]

DesktopIP successfully developed various digital products, including Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), Software-as-a-service (SaaS). Through developing digital infrastructures with entirely self-sufficient technologies, Phidi aspires to contribute to Indonesia to be more sovereign in the digital landscape.[5]
