History
[edit]The origin of Onitsha Stock Exchange can be traced to the Nigeria Stock Exchange. On 15, September, 1960, Nigeria Stock Exchange was established as Lagos Stock Exchange. The group’s memorandum of association then had seven subscribers which includes: V. Scott, representing C.T. Bowring and Co. Nigeria Ltd.; Chief Theophilus Adebayo Doherty; John Holt Ltd; Investment Company of Nig. Ltd.(ICON); Sir. Odumegwu Ojukwu; Chief Akintola Williams; and Alhaji Shehu Bukar. Operations commenced with 19 securities officially registered for trading in 1961. In 1990, the Onitsha branch, Onitsha Stock Exchange, of the Nigeria Stock Exchange started operations.[2][5][2][6][7][8]
