Neel Chokro: Blue Gang [in short, Neel Chokro or Neel Chakra] (Bengali – নীলচক্র) is an upcoming Bangladeshi thriller film directed by Mithu Khan..[1]. Nazim Ud Daula and Mithu Khan jointly wrote the screenplay and story arrangement for the Bengali-language film[2]. Neel Chakra, starring Arifin Shuvoo in the lead role, is produced by FILMFIOS Production and presented by FILMLIFE Production[3]. JJ Rogers is the international distributor of the film[4]. The film’s official poster mentioned Enayet Akbar Milon, Angcon Podder (AP), Sazzadul Islam, Hasibur Rahman, and Enrico Gonsalves as the producers. Angcon Podder (AP), Nazim Ud Daula, and Anjan Sarkar Jimy are credited for the story[3][5].
Plot
[edit]The modern generation is heavily immersed in various social media platforms. Many youngsters are obsessed with the so-called 'going viral' trend. Unsurprisingly, many culprits are laying their traps to utilize the craze for selfish motives. The traps are often too alluring for the young generation to ignore. And many keep falling into technological traps. The movie revolves around the stories of people being trafficked after falling into some of those traps, even resulting in tragic deaths. The story digs up the countless hidden dangers in the online world[1][4].
According to the director, "The story is more or less very familiar to Bangladeshi audiences. Almost every family has a story like this. The story reveals how an unexpected accident involving one family member affects the entire family. Its trendy and contemporary story blends thriller and suspense"[1][6].

[edit]Pre-Production
[edit]Director Mithu Khan spent considerable time on the story with the lead actor, Arifin Shuvoo. He sat with Shuvo for around seven months to work on the story throughout 2024. They spent 4 to 5 hours discussing the film's plot[1][4].
After devoting himself to the making of 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation,' Arifin Shuvoo hinted at joining the new film by the end of 2023. The Dhallywood star finally unveiled the film on May 03, 2024, by sharing the first-look poster on his social media account[1].
Filming
[edit]The shooting lasted only about 2 months, from January 2024 to February 2024[1]. The film's entire shooting took place in 33 locations around Dhaka. During the shooting of the film, Arifin Shuvoo's mother passed away. But the actor returned to the set only after 3 days of absence. Arifin Shuvoo prefers working quietly, so he didn't reveal much of the film before or during filming[1].
Post-Production
[edit]After sharing the first-look poster, people learned about the movie in May[2]. According to the director, the cinematic post-production continued throughout May 2024. He informed the media that the film's teaser would be released by the end of May, and the trailer would be released by Eid (Eid-ul-Adha of 2024)[8].
Marketing
[edit]The lead actor, Arifin Shuvoo, shared the movie's first-look poster on May 03, 2024[2][3]. According to the director, the cinematic post-production continued throughout May 2024. He informed the media that the film's teaser would be released by the end of May, and the trailer would be released by Eid (Eid-ul-Adha of 2024)[2][8]. A teaser was released on May 19, revealing a glimpse into the dramatic and intense storyline. However, no official trailer has been released yet[9]. Director Mithu said that Neelchakra isn't a typical hero-heroine-centric film. Instead, it's a story-driven film focusing on the dark side of following trends among the young generation[4].
Music
[edit]Prominent Bangladeshi singer Balam is actively involved in two of the film's songs[7]. He composed and sang one of the two songs whose lyrics were written by Robiul Islam Jibon. Balam only handled the music arrangement for the second song, performed by rapper Safayet.
Release
[edit]The international premiere of Neel Chokro was held at the American Film Market on November 8, 2024[4]. The film's premiere took place in Las Vegas, USA. Producer Enayet Akbar Milon, Asif Akbar, and JJ Rogers were present during the premiere. The movie also garnered interest from Saudi Arabia and China for screening in their countries [6].
Director Mithu Khan, following the international premiere in the USA, revealed that preparations were underway to release Neel Chokro in Bangladesh[4]. He mentioned that local theaters would have to wait to see the movie on the big screen, considering the overall situation in the country. According to the director, the current circumstances for releasing films in the country aren't entirely suitable yet[9].
He also hoped the situation would soon improve within the following months. "We have objectively set a release date, but we aren't ready to announce it right now. However, we will officially announce the release date through a press conference"[4].
The film received its NOC from BFDC on January 22, 2025, and was circulated on the official website on February 03, 2025[10]
Influence
[edit]The premiere of Neel Chokro at the American Film Market is a positive development for Bangladeshi cinema. Director Mithu Khan claimed that around 600 people from Hollywood and Bollywood were present during the premiere, and they praised the film[4]. Many even expressed interest in investing or working with the Bangladeshi cinema industry.
Also, Neel Chokro was officially selected for the 8th Golden State Film Festival in 2025[11][12]. The festival's official website revealed that Neel Chokro was selected for screening in the 'Foreign Language' category.
