Location

[edit]

Mahinda Rajapaksa College is located in Pitipana North, a suburb within the administrative boundaries of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat in the Colombo District of Sri Lanka's Western Province. The school lies approximately 24 kilometers southeast of Colombo, the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, and is accessible via the High-Level Road (A4) and Southern Expressway interchanges at Kahathuduwa and Kottawa. The location of the school lies adjacent to the site of the proposed Techno City, also referred to as the Technology City, which includes institutions such as NSBM Green University and the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC).

Administratively, the school falls under the jurisdiction of the Homagama Education Division and the Western Provincial Department of Education, but it is governed as a national school under the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka. The school is situated at the foot of the Dampe-Pitipana Road, and its surrounding landscape comprises a mix of residential, institutional, and forested areas, forming part of a broader government strategy to decentralize infrastructure and educational services in suburban Colombo.

As part of this broader Colombo Metropolitan Region (Megapolis) Development initiative, the Pitipana area was identified for its potential to integrate higher education, research, and innovation hubs within a suburban setting. Mahinda Rajapaksa College was among the state educational institutions established in alignment with this vision, positioned to serve the growing student population in tandem with high-tech institutional infrastructure.[1]
