Long Duo Piano is regarded by many as one of the foremost duo-piano teams from Taiwan. Formed by sisters Beatrice Long (隆信真, born March 6, 1963) and Christina Long (隆愛真, born December 30, 1964), the duo has earned international recognition for their performances and recordings. Both were born into a musical family in Hualien, Taiwan, and currently reside in the United States.

Beatrice Long began performing at a young age and has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras including the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra (國立臺灣交響樂團), Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, Curtis Symphony Orchestra, Jura Symphony Orchestra, and Ensemble du Monde.

She graduated with honors from the Curtis Institute of Music (Festorazzi Award) and the Peabody Conservatory of Music (Graggy Award). Her solo recital venues include the Ravinia Festival, Théâtre Gabrielle Dorziat in Epernay, Château de Lourmarin (France), and the National Theatre of Taiwan.

Her principal teachers included Seymour Lipkin, Enrique Graf, Leon Fleisher, and Mieczysław Horszowski, with later studies under Fou Ts'ong in London and Gaby Casadesus in Paris. Since 2017, Beatrice has served as a faculty member at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn College, and the City University of New York.

Christina Long

Christina Long studied at the National Taipei University of the Arts (台北藝術大學) and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where she also received the Best Dissertation Award. She studied under Adam Wodnicki and Vladimir Viardo.

She is a founding member of the New England Lyric Trio and translated Franz Mohr’s memoir My Life with the Great Pianists into Chinese for the Ubiquitous Publishing Co. Christina served on the faculty of Tabor College (1996–1999), Westfield State University (1999–2002), and Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2002–2003).

Her solo performances include appearances with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Wind Symphony, Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra, and the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra. Christina was recently honored with the Outstanding Pre-Collegiate Teacher Award by the Texas Music Teachers Association and inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teachers' Hall of Fame in New York City.

Duo Career

Beatrice and Christina Long began performing as a duo after winning First Prize at the Ellis Duo Piano Competition in 1997, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC). The award had not been given for eight years prior to their win. They also received the Best Performance of an American Work for their performance of Sonata for Two Pianos by Robert Starer.

Their orchestral debut as a duo was with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, performing Ralph Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Two Pianos. This led to a recording for the Sono Luminus label featuring Vaughan Williams’ work, as well as the first modern recording of Dana Suesse’s Concerto for Two Pianos and a concerto by Harl MacDonald.
