Lisa Bodell is an American entrepreneur, author, and keynote speaker. She is the founder and CEO of FutureThink, a transformation and change consultancy, and the author of two books, Kill the Company (2012) and Why Simple Wins (2016). Her work focuses on organizational simplification, innovation, and leadership strategies.[1]
Early life and education
Lisa Bodell was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
Career
[edit]Bodell worked for Leo Burnett, a Chicago-based advertising agency. She later moved to New York City.[1]
In 2003, she founded FutureThink[2], a consultancy that provides tools and training focused on the innovation and organizational simplification techniques she outlines in her books, including:
- Kill The Company, an exercise encouraging organizations to identify weaknesses before competitors exploit them[3]
- Kill A Stupid Rule, which helps teams eliminate unnecessary processes to enable innovation.[4]
Bodell has consulted global organizations such as Google, the National Institutes of Health, Eli Lilly, JPMorgan Chase, and the Department of National Intelligence. She has served as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Advisory Council for Consumer Industries, the Diversity & Inclusion Board and Culture Advisory Board at Novartis, and as an advisor to the United States National Security Agency (NSA).[5]
She taught innovation at American University and Fordham University[6]
Bodell is a regular contributor to Forbes[7] and Fast Company[8]. Her work has also been featured in Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, Inc., and Wired.[9]
She has been featured in books such as Warren Berger’s A More Beautiful Question, Adam Grant’s Originals, and AfterShock, a celebration of futurist Alvin Toffler’s work.[10] [11]
In 2016, Bodell delivered a TEDx Talk titled "How Simplification is the Key to Change | Lisa Bodell | TEDxNormal", which has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.[12]
