The Kenya Kabaddi Union (KKU) is the official governing body responsible for the development, promotion, and regulation of the sport of kabaddi in Kenya. Established in 2014, the Union has played a central role in popularizing kabaddi across the country and establishing Kenya as a competitive force on the international stage. History The Kenya Kabaddi Union was founded in 2014 by Madam Laventer Oguta, who discovered kabaddi through YouTube. Inspired by the sport’s intensity and cultural roots, she collaborated with a few like-minded individuals to register the Kenya Kabaddi Union under the Office of the Registrar of Sports, within the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports in the Government of Kenya.
Since its inception, the Union has spearheaded numerous grassroots and elite-level initiatives to grow the sport locally and regionally. It represents Kenya in all international kabaddi events sanctioned by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) and the African Kabaddi Confederation.
Role and Responsibilities KKU is responsible for:
Organizing national tournaments and leagues
Developing grassroots kabaddi programs
Managing the Kenyan national kabaddi teams (senior, junior, and beach categories)
Representing Kenya in international kabaddi forums and championships
Coaching development and referee training
Promoting gender equity in kabaddi
