Justin Merz (born 27 September 1992) is a German-Irish football coach who is currently the goalkeeping coach for Danish Superliga club Brøndby IF.
Early life and playing career
[edit]Merz played as a goalkeeper in Germany for clubs including Stuttgarter Kickers, Karlsruher SC II, Viktoria Berlin, and Union Berlin II. He retired from playing in 2016 to pursue a career in coaching.
Coaching career
[edit]Union Berlin Academy (2017–2021)
[edit]Merz began his coaching career at Union Berlin, working with the U17 and U19 teams and later becoming head of goalkeeping development in the academy.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim II (2023)
[edit]In February 2023, Merz joined Hoffenheim II as goalkeeping coach for the Regionalliga team.
Anderlecht (2023–2025)
[edit]In July 2023, Merz was appointed goalkeeping coach for the first team at Belgian club RSC Anderlecht. He worked with high-profile players, including Kasper Schmeichel.
Brøndby IF (2025–present)
[edit]On 17 July 2025, Brøndby IF announced the appointment of Merz as their new first-team goalkeeping coach, replacing Casper Ankergren, who had joined West Ham United.
Coaching style
