Johannes Grillari (* 9. Februar 1969 in Lienz) is an Austrian scientist and director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology.[1]

Life

Johannes Grillari was born in 1969 in Lienz. After completing secondary school (Matura), he began studying at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, and graduated in 1996 with a degree in food and biotechnology (Dipl.-Ing.). He completed his doctorate in 1999.[2]

In 2010, Johannes Grillari was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. Three years later, he founded the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Biotechnology of Skin Aging at the same university. He spent half a year as a visiting scientist in the laboratory of Angus Lamond in Dundee, Scotland, working in the field of RNA biology. He is a co-founder of several companies, including Evercyte and TamiRNA. Since 2019, he has been heading the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Clinical and Experimental Traumatology.[1]

Johannes Grillari has published over 130 scientific articles. He holds 14 patents and has received severales awards, including the Walter Doberauer award for ageing research.[1][3]

Research interests

Johannes Grillari focuses in particular on regenerative medicine and cellular aging at the molecular and physiological levels, with an emphasis on the skin and bones. Another key area of his work is the engineering of mammalian cells to develop relevant and standardized cell model systems and cell factories.[1]
