JioTags are a line of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-based key finders and object trackers developed by Reliance Jio, an Indian telecommunications company.[1] Launched on June 8, 2023, with the first generation JioTag, they were designed to help users locate lost items such as keys, bags, wallets, or pets, offering an affordable alternative to devices like the Apple AirTag and Samsung Galaxy SmartTag.[2][3] As of March 25, 2025, the original JioTag is no longer available for purchase, having been succeeded by the JioTag Air and JioTag Go, released on July 22, 2024, and December 19, 2024, respectively. JioTag Air support Apple’s Find My Network similarly like Apple Air Tag and uses the vast network of apple community to locate the devices. Similarly JioTag Go can be added to Google’s Find My Device app which uses millions of android devices for locating the devices.[4][5]

Overview

[edit]

Introduced on June 8, 2023, the original JioTag uses Bluetooth 5.1 LE and connects via the JioThings app, compatible with Android 9.0+ and iOS 14.0+.[6][3] Initially priced at ₹2,199, it was later offered at ₹749, marketed as "India’s most affordable tracking device."[7] JioTag Air and JioTag Go, launched in 2024, use Bluetooth 5.3 and integrate with Apple and Google Find My ecosystems, respectively, priced at ₹1,499 each.[8][9]

History

[edit]

The original JioTag debuted on June 8, 2023, targeting India’s cost-conscious consumers with its low price and JioThings app integration.[1][10] Following its success, Jio expanded the line with JioTag Air in July 2024 and JioTag Go in December 2024, aligning with global tracking networks to broaden appeal using the Find My Netowrk of Apple and Google.[11][12]

Features

[edit]

The JioTag offers several features for tracking and convenience:[6][7]

  • Bluetooth LE Connectivity: JioTag first generation uses Bluetooth 5.1 (10–20 m indoors, 40–50 m outdoors); JioTag Air and Go use Bluetooth 5.3 (20–30 m indoors, 50–100 m outdoors).[3][8][13]
  • JioThings Community Find Feature: Available for all tags added to JioThings, enabling anonymous location updates via other users.[7]
  • Apple Find My Network: JioTag Air integrates with Apple’s global tracking network.[14]
  • Google Find My Device Network: JioTag Go leverages Android devices for tracking.[9]
  • Ring Tag: JioTag has a 120 dB speaker.[2][15]
  • Ring Phone: Rings a paired phone, even on silent (original JioTag only).[2]
  • Clicking Selfie: Remote camera shutter (JioTag added to JioThings only).[7]
  • Immediate Disconnection: Instant app disconnection (JioTag added to JioThings only).[16]

All models use a replaceable CR2032 battery: one year for the original, 1+1 years for Air and Go.[17]
