Janine Anthony is an award-winning Nigerian broadcaster and media personality, as well as a renowned leader in the global sports and technology sectors. Her multifaceted career encompasses significant contributions to tech, sports media, gaming, digital innovation, and strategic communications, positioning her as a key influencer in these industries in Africa and Globally. She has worked with the BBC, StarTimes, Premier League Productions, Sky Sports News, Samba and Ligue 1, Whisper TV and FIFA+, TikTok, and betPawa.
Early life Janine was born in Lagos, Nigeria to Mr and Mrs Anthony. She is the first of three children and has two brothers. She graduated from Tendertouch College, Festac. She was Head Prefect (girl) at the age of 15 and prior to that, was awarded one best student academics, in Lagos State, at the Nestle Milo School Awards in 2002. In 2012, She graduated with a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Calabar. She further went on to study for her MBA programme at Newcastle University Business School.
Janine's passion for football was ignited during her youth, inspired by the Super Falcons legendary player, Mercy Akide-Udoh. This early fascination led her to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
- Pioneering Roles in Sports Broadcasting**
Her first role was on radio as a Guest on Sports Radio at Hot FM Owerri in 2012. She then moevd back to Lagos where she freelanced for Nigeria Info FM with Femi and the Gang in 2013. Her archival knowledge and expert analysis led to an offshoot women in sports show called Femi's Divas. This show morphed into LadiesMatch and featured Janine as the lead presenter and producer alongside a rotating cast of female sports experts. In 2015, she became a Sports Analyst on Smooth FM's evening sports show before landing her first TV role as a Sports Analyst on the nationally syndicated on NTA show, Inside Sports, alongside Jonathan Hanson, Tega Onojaife, Titus Bankole and Joseph Faulkner.
The gaps on reportage of African Women Sports led her to create in 2015, LadiesMarch, Africa's prioneer women's football network, covering women's football from Algeria to Zimbabwe. This was initially an an all-women's team; from Editors and Writers to Graphic Artists and Social Media Mangers. The team soon expanded to male writers, passionate about women's football in Africa.
In 2016, she joined Inspiration FM as a Radio Presenter, co-creating the popular Sports Entertainment show TimeOut with Debola and Janine. The success of the show and Janine's growing TV popularity earned her a National Broadcseters Merit Awards nomination in 2016.
In 2017 she became the first female Presenter on the German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A for African rightsholders, StartTimes.
She moved from Freelancer to Report/Presenter and Sports Team Lead (West Africa) at the BBC in 2018. In 2019 she was nominated for the Best Young Reporter at the International Sports Press Awards (AIPS). She also worked as a the African Fetures Producer for Premier League TV.
In the same year, she led an all-female BBC crew to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, a historic moment where she became the first African woman to lead commenate at a major men's sports competition.
In 2022, she further cemneted her global status becoming the first Africans based in Africa, to present in the Premier League. This achievemnet in addition to her journalistice endeavours, cements her commitment to breaking barriers and inspiring others from the continent.
Since 2022, Janine has made notable appearances on Sky Sports News and Sky Football, where she provides in-depth analysis and commentary on African football. These appearances have contributed to broader knowledge of African Sports on a global scale.

In her role at TikTok, Janine served as the Sports and Gaming Partnerships Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). She was instrumental in evolving the content creation landscape on TikTok in Africa, and generally in the larger social media sphere. This led to first time awards of TikTok Sports Creator of the Year award (Africa) in 2024. She further launched the gaming landscape on TikTok with initiatives such as TikTok's 'Month of Gaming' in SSA, aimed at fostering collaboration and growth within the gaming community.
