He led the district’s Remote Academy, a fully online K–8 program[4] established to accommodate remote learning. He also served as interim administrator at Lyman Moore Middle School, providing leadership during a period of transition.

The visit was part of a program aimed at fostering global awareness among students.[12]
In April 2025, Giessman participated in the selection of a senior student[13] to receive the Maine Principals’ Association Principal’s Award[14], which recognizes leadership and school involvement.
[15]He has overseen key school events[16], including Deering’s 150th commencement ceremony and the Russell Award [17]presentation for teaching excellence.[18] Giessman also served on the Portland Public Schools Strategic Plan Steering Committee in 2023, contributing to district-wide long-term planning.
