The Holy Russian Empire is a fictional theocratic state in the alternate history mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe for the video game Hearts of Iron IV. It is one of the possible successor states that can emerge from the post-war collapse of the Soviet Union in the mod’s timeline.

Background

The Holy Russian Empire arises in Siberia under the leadership of radical Orthodox Christian fundamentalists. The state seeks to restore Russia’s imperial glory while enforcing strict theocratic rule. It competes with other Russian warlord states in the chaotic Russian Reunification Wars.

Gameplay

In TNO, players can lead the Holy Russian Empire in its attempt to reunify Russia under a theocratic autocracy. Depending on player choices, the state can either expand its influence or collapse due to internal strife.

Reception

The Holy Russian Empire is noted for its unique religious and authoritarian themes, making it one of the more distinctive factions in The New Order. Players and modders have debated its historical plausibility and gameplay balance.
