Historic first period home of John Gibbs from Boston who kept a room in the Old George Tavern on the Boston neck. This home is located in Sutton Massachusetts on the Old Connecticut Path from Boston to Connecticut. Built in 1719-20 on lot #19 of the first settlers division range of Sutton located across from the first meeting house. It is listed as the first Public School in Sutton dated 1732 as noted in the town history with the original Town Pound located on the property. Interior has late first period elements still remaining with beaded floor joists, wide plank bead board, and chamfered transverse summer beams. Also noted is the original 11' x 30' dug well on the property. Lazarus LeBaron also owned this home during the first years of the American Revolution. He also operated an Ordinary in this home during the years of 1775-1777. This home continues an historic presence with the modern name of Liberty Tavern and is a contributing property in a National Historic District.
