Hester Albach ( born 4 November 1953 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch writer.

Life

[edit]

She studied electrical engineering, and at the Rietveld Academy she worked as an English-Dutch translator and copywriter [ 1 ] .

In 1975, she made her literary debut with the novel Het debuut.[1] This book, written by the then 21-year-old Albach, caused a sensation when it was published, as it described, with frankness, clarity and honesty, the relationship between a thirteen-year-old girl and an older married man, based on her own experience – a subject that was (and still is) a heavy social taboo. All the major newspapers and weeklies devoted extensive reviews and interviews to it.

Het debuut (nl) became one of the most discussed books of 1975 and was adapted into a film under the same title by Nouchka van Brakel two years later. [2][3][4]

At the time of the film's premiere, Albach published the story "Een gezonde relatie" . She then disappeared for twenty years, until the publication of the novel Evenbeelden in 1997, and shortly after, in 1999, of the short story collection Eendruppel goud , which did not achieve as much success as Het debuut .

In 2009, Hester Albach published a book about Nadja , the main character in André Breton's novel. She discovered who Nadja was through careful research in France. The novel was titled Léona Delcourt , which was later translated into French and published by Actes Sud under the title Léona, héros du surréalisme.[5][6][7]
