Education and Work Career

[edit]

Guglietta was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is one of three siblings.[citation needed] Guglietta's education started at St Mary's School in Christchurch before her family moved to Invercargill where she attended St Johns Girls School.[citation needed] Upon the family relocating to Kirwee, Guglietta attended Darfield High School.[citation needed] During that time Guglietta became heavily involved in student civics and represented the school on the Darfield High School Board of Trustees for 2 years.[citation needed]

After a brief OE,[citation needed] Guglietta became a sales representative for Blue Star Office Automation and then a contractor for number of other Telecommunications companies before starting Akiva Limited in 2005.[citation needed] Guglietta is one of only a handful of female Ayava Certified Telephone Technicians in the world.[citation needed]

Guglietta obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Canterbury in 2010.[citation needed]

Post‑earthquake advocacy

[edit]

Following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes[4] (2010–2011), Guglietta emerged as a pivotal community advocate in the Richmond suburb and communities surrounding the Ōtākaro – Avon River Corridor (OARC).[citation needed] As a long‑term resident of Richmond, Guglietta witnessed firsthand the seismic impacts, widespread damage, a dramatic population decline, and economic disruption. In response, Guglietta shifted focus from personal ambitions to rebuilding community resilience (Otago Daily Times Online News, Otakaro Living Lab[5]).

Guglietta co-founded the Richmond Residents’ & Business Association (RRBA) in 2018 and quickly became central to community-led regeneration efforts.[citation needed] Guglietta coordinated the recovery of a community garden adjacent to Avebury House and later became a driving force behind the Richmond Community Garden Trust which led to the Riverlution Collective[6], a collaborative initiative activating the red‑zone land with trails, heritage gardens, public art, and community activities.

Guglietta became the Network Manager for the Avon Ōtākaro Network, after the passing of Evan Smith MNZM in 2020.[citation needed] Guglietta advocated for strategic, community-led regeneration across the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. In this role Guglietta worked alongside local organisations, LINZ, Christchurch City Council[7], and local iwi, promoting co‑governance[8] and durable restoration projects. Guglietta's leadership emphasis ensures that former red‑zone residents and stakeholders remain represented in decision‑making structures over river‑corridor planning.[citation needed]

Guglietta is also a long term member of Edible Canterbury and is the current Chairperson of the Food Resilience Network, both born out of post‑earthquake food security efforts.[citation needed] She has helped connect some 50 community gardens in Christchurch, advocate for edible food in parks, and supported urban foraging initiatives [9]positioning local food systems as a key pillar in community resilience.[citation needed]

Guglietta's community contributions were formally recognised in 2019 when awarded a Kiwibank Local Hero highlighting sustained volunteerism, leadership in local environmental and social initiatives (including supporting Alzheimer’s Canterbury), and strong advocacy for preserving school zones in Richmond.[citation needed] In March 2024, Guglietta was presented with a Christchurch City Council Civic Award for thousands of volunteer hours and transformative vision and delivery in Richmond’s recovery.[citation needed]

Guglietta received a Paul Harris Fellow award from Sunrise Rotary in 2024.[citation needed]
