"Gin & Raspberry" is a song written by New Zealand singer / songwriter Martin Curtis.[1][2]

It was first released in 1982 on his debut album "Gin & Raspberry"[3] and has since been rereleased on several other albums.[4]

The song tells the story of the Gin & Raspberry mine, which was one of the richest mines in the Cardrona Valley (Cardrona, New Zealand) during the 1860's gold rush. Legend has it that it got its name from the drink that was shouted when they struck an ounce of gold in a bucket of paydirt.[5]

A live performance of the song by Martin Curtis can be viewed on YouTube[6].[7]

The Gin & Raspberry mine also lends its name to a ski run at Cardrona Alpine Resort.[8]
