Edward Mitri Karkar

Edward Mitri Karkar (1932 – December 22, 2013) was a Palestinian-American engineer and tech entrepreneur, best known as the founder of Karkar Electronics. He is recognized as one of the relevant figures in Silicon Valley's telecommunications sector.

Biography

Born in Jaffa, Palestine, Karkar emigrated to the United States where he studied at Stanford University and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in engineering. In 1959, he founded Karkar Electronics, contributing to the advancement of terrestrial and satellite communication technologies.

In 1976, he married renowned Russian ballerina Natalia Makarova, with whom he had a son, Andrei Karkar, now an investor and entrepreneur.

Legacy

Karkar's influence is evident in the evolution of multiplexing and data transmission systems. After selling his company to General Signal in 1985, the industrial and family legacy continued through ERAS Holdings, the Karkar family office.

Death

Edward passed away in 2013 in San Francisco.
