Devyani International Limited (DIL) is an Indian food service company that operates quick-service restaurants (QSRs) brands across multiple countries. Founded in 1991, the company is a franchisee for several international brands, including KFC, Pizza Hut, and Costa Coffee in India. It also operates its own brands, such as Vaango, specializing in South Indian cuisine, and The Food Street, a multi-brand food court concept.[2]

History

Devyani International Limited was incorporated as Universal Ice Creams Private Limited in New Delhi as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1956. It received its certificate of incorporation on December 13, 1991, from the Registrar of Companies. The company changed its name to Devyani International Private Limited on June 7, 2000, and later converted into a public limited company on May 9, 2005, receiving a revised certificate of incorporation.[3]

As of December 31, 2024, the company operates over 2,030 stores across India, Thailand, Nigeria, and Nepal.[4]

Brands and Operations

DIL is the largest franchisee of Yum! Brands in India, operating KFC and Pizza Hut outlets. It is also the exclusive franchisee of Costa Coffee in India.[5] In addition to international brands, the company operates Vaango, a South Indian cuisine brand, and The Food Street, a food court model.[6]

In Q3 of FY 2025, DIL reported a net loss of ₹7.6 crore, despite a 53.5% year-on-year revenue growth. The company expanded significantly during this period, adding 111 new stores and surpassing 2,000 outlets. The company also expanded KFC operations in Thailand, reaching 305 stores.[7]

Recent Initiatives

In November 2024, DIL signed franchise agreements with Tealive, a Malaysian beverage brand,New York Fries, a Canadian fast-food company and Sanook Kitchen, a Singapore-based Thai and Asian food chain.

These agreements allow DIL to expand its presence in India.[8][9][10][11][12]
