Born in New York City, Cliffe was educated at Davidson College in North Carolina before attending and graduating from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary outside of Boston. After his graduation, he began working with Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship, as well as various churches throughout the United States. His son Stuart Knechtle was born June 24, 1988. In 1991, Stuart created Give Me an Answer as an expansion of the dialogues he had with students at various universities, which Stuart would eventually go on to co-host.
Cliffe and Stuart Knechtle's following has been boosted by their discussions with popular philosophy personalities, such as Alex O'Connor on Youtube, as well as Christian and atheist reaction content creators across various social media platforms.
