Chris Marshall is a Yang style Taijiquan expert based in Shoreline, Washington, USA. He is the founder and instructor of the Shoreline Tai Chi[1] school. A prominent figure in the Tai Chi community, Chris has won numerous gold medals for taolu and tuishou across North America, Europe, and Asia.[2]
Tai Chi lineage
[edit]Chris Marshall is a sixth-generation inheritor of Yang style Taijiquan with a lineage tracing back to the original founders of Yang Style Tai Chi: [3]
Chris Marshall ← Xie Bingcan ← Fu Zhongwen ← Yang Chengfu ← Yang Jianhou ← Yang Luchan
Chris Marshall ← Yang Jun ← Yang Zhenduo ← Yang Chengfu ← Yang Jianhou ← Yang Luchan
Chris also received instruction from other renowned Tai Chi masters such as Sam Tam and Fong Ha.[3]
Contributions to Tai Chi
[edit]

Chris has played a significant role in documenting Tai Chi competitions through YouTube videos and essays.[4] Before his efforts, raw footage of Tai Chi competitions was scarce, with most available videos consisting of carefully edited showcases.[5][6][7] His footage has shed light on how Tai Chi is performed under real pressure, across different rulesets, with varying levels of speed and intensity.
Chris has written, compiled and published a broad selection of free educational resources for the Tai Chi community,[8] including a comprehensive online Tai Chi dictionary of essential terms and concepts. He teaches regular Tai Chi classes,[9] workshops and seminars near Seattle, alongside online coaching.
Chris also hosts open mat sessions, providing martial artists with an opportunity to practice techniques, drill, and spar freely, in a safe and minimally structured environment.[10] He supports worldwide community events as a judge,[2] promoter,[10] participant, and competitor.[2]
Chris is the chair of the Tai Chi Instructors Alliance, a continuing professional development group.
